Treatments
Working with me:
Most of my clients are athletes or extremely active people dealing with chronic injuries and conditions, or folks come to me to receive preventative body work. The types of therapies I offer, helps to increase your performance as an athlete or maintain an optimal well-being and function of the physical body.
Based on the feedback that I gather from your introductory session, I design a treatment plan using the different modalities and experience I've acquired through my long career as a therapist. Frozen shoulder, chronic lower back pain , carpal tunnel syndrome and limited range of motion are some of the common conditions which I've successfully treated.
Practicing therapeutic body work for more than two decades has shown me that the sooner we seek help after an injury, the faster the recovery is. Sometimes one or two sessions is enough. And vice versa, the longer a client waits before seeking help, the longer the recovery process can take. An injury left untreated creates more scar tissue and non-beneficial structural changes and motion patterns which can affect the nervous system as well. Sometimes even after the recovery happens within the tissue, the nervous system maintains the memory of the trauma.
Dealing with the complexity of chronic conditions is what prompted me to study Somatic Trauma Release technique based on the work of Dr. Peter Levine and Dr. John Whitman Ray. For the past few years I've been incorporating work with the vagus nerve as well.
In my sessions I invite you to take a full responsibility and participation in your healing process. I believe my treatments are effective and lasting because I am able to address the multilayered aspects of an injury and also tapping into the limitless abilities and wisdom of our physical bodies to heal.

Myofascial release technique
Fascia is strong, transparent membrane-like connective tissue that covers and interconnects the muscles, bones, nerves, internal organs and blood vessels in our bodies. In fact, we can say that without fascia, we would be a shapeless mass of proteins. Fascia directly impacts the musculature of the body and various systems. Some fascial layers are so strong that they can apply a pressure of up to 2000 pound per square inch!
Myofascial release therapy is a relatively deep work combined with a constant gathering of feedback from the tissue and structure. It is extremely efficient for assessment and since I usually incorporate multiple modalities in my treatments, is the technique that unifies and completes the session.
Deep Tissue
Deep tissue is a type of body work designed to remove adhesion in the muscle tissue due to an injury or a repetitive motion. I use moderate to deep pressure and cross-fiber strokes to anchor and stretch a muscle. In this way, I can work an entire kinetic chain - a group of muscles involved in executing a specific movement. For example, I've had many clients, mostly runners, complaining from a pain below the knee on the lateral (external) side. This condition requires working the whole length of the iliotibial band as well as the adductor muscle group. Deep tissue, combined with myofascial release technique is one of the most efficient therapeutic combinations!
Sports Massage
Professional or amateur athletes push their bodies to the limit. As a result, inflammation, chronic pain and scar tissue build-up are very common. Sports massage is designed to assist athletes in achieving optimal and injury-free performance. A treatment plan can address the muscles that are directly involved in the sport or activity chosen by an athlete. The sports massage session can be tailored to: pre-race, post-race massage, and maintenance phase. Having been a massage therapist for more than 25 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with top athletes from many different sports. I can quickly asses and design the most effective treatment plan.
Trigger Point Release Therapy
Trigger Points --- often referred to as "muscle knots" --- are sensitive or tender spots found in the soft tissue of the body. Most trigger points are considered the result of Myofascial Pain Syndrome, which is a chronic pain disorder that typically occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. The cause of this syndrome is usually attributed to repetitive movement of a muscle during a job or hobby or to stress-related muscle tension. Most of the time the pain is ascribed to "micro-cramps" of the muscle, but the science is not conclusive and many of the studies on the phenomenon are not well done.
Regardless of their origin, Trigger Points are as common as acne on the body in many people, and seem to occur in greater numbers around injuries. In many cases, they can also cause referred pain ---which is pain perceived at a location other than the site of the knotted muscle. It's suggested that Trigger Points can also be a factor in chronic neck and back pain. The pain experienced due to a Trigger Point can be surprisingly intense for many people and can cause spontaneous jerking or wincing when touched. Trigger Point Therapy primarily consists of subtle and gentle massaging of the area and, when performed properly, can provide intense, often immediate, relief. It's also been suggested by some studies that a knotted muscle can contain waste metabolites. Clearing the knots can get rid of that waste and reduce or eliminate other odd sensations and aches felt in the body, as well as taking care of the pain.
Reflexology of foot, hand and ear
Reflexology is a very ancient healing modality which is based on discovering points on the foot, hand and ears that correspond with different organs and systems in the human body. It is extremely efficient for pain management, general well-being, balancing and stimulating the endocrine system, and for relief from anxiety and stress. It has been proven to alleviate symptoms from conditions such as chronic pain, migraine headache, indigestion. Clients deeply appreciate the calming and grounding effect of sessions.
Lymphatic facial drainage massage
This is a gentle and soothing massage of the face and neck intended to stimulate the circulation of the lymphatic fluid. We have 43 facial muscles controlled by the seventh cranial nerve, as well as the vagus nerve. Working directly with them creates a deep state of relaxation and calms the mind. This tailored massage maintains the elasticity and youthful appearance of the face and neck and helps with elimination of waste products from the facial tissue. It’s extremely efficient with water retention and a swollen, puffy face! When appropriate, organic jojoba oil and essential oils can be used.
Cupping
Cupping is an ancient form of natural medicine. It's been used since 1500 B.C. in ancient Egypt. I've been familiar with this technique since my early childhood and have seen remarkable results.
People use cupping for various purposes, including to help with stiffness, chronic injuries, cold or simply to stimulate circulation in the body. I use cupping in my sessions in order to create a space between muscle tissue and fascia, which allows better circulations and faster recovery from chronic pain and injuries. It can be used in conjunction with a variety of treatments to improve recovery time. For example, it is extremely effective at the end of a deep tissue work in extracting waste products from the muscles and bringing them to the lymphatic system so they can be eliminated faster, which speeds up healing and recovery.
